This year marks the 50th anniversary of EU-China diplomatic relations, a milestone reached as global trade dynamics grow increasingly complex. At the 25th EU-China Summit in Beijing this July, both sides issued a joint statement on climate and agreed to enhance trade mechanisms, while the European Chamber noted that significant imbalances in the relationship still need to be addressed. Meanwhile, the escalation of US-China tariffs earlier this year and the conclusion of a new EU-US trade deal have added further uncertainty for European businesses operating in China. Against this backdrop, the European Chamber will publish its European Business in China Position Paper 2025/2026 (Position Paper 2025/2026), the culmination of six months of work by over 1,600 member companies across 51 working groups, sub-working groups, industry desks, and forums. With China now preparing its 15th Five-Year Plan (2026–2030), the Paper reviews the outcomes of the 14th Five-Year Plan (2021–2025) and offers forward-looking recommendations to foster sustainable, high-quality growth while enabling a more open and mutually beneficial EU-China economic relationship. Join us in South China on 5th November, to hear about the key challenges faced both by businesses and China’s economy more broadly, and the steps that could be taken to overcome them.
